When songbirds do not serenade
When water lays so still
When carefree joy and hapiness
Means swallowing that pill.
When lovers become strangers
When children cannot smile
When tears and angry faces
Become the newest style.
When laughter is a tortured sound
When nature withers more
When God no longer graces lips
And knees don't touch the floor.
The somber night does echoe
The ruins of our time
When your life breathed it's last attempt
As suddenly did mine.
